In this video I will describe what is Alzheimer's disease, and what seems to be the best way to prevent and treat it. Last week I was watching the last hour lecture by Dr. Michael Gregor, called From Table to Able: Combating Disabling Illnesses with Food and was fascinated by the difference that a plant-based diet can make to our health. In particular, I was curious about Alzheimer's disease. So I looked for more videos by Dr. Greger to see what else I had found on ways to prevent it, so I will include excerpts from his videos. In addition, VegSource uploaded an hour-long video with Dr. Neal Barnard talking about Alzheimer's, so I'll summarize that way keeping our minds sharp for as long as we can. I recommend watching the full conference for more details. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. It damages the brain, resulting in impaired memory, thinking and behavior.
Both Dr. Michael Greger and Dr. Neal Barnard argue that lifestyle factors and especially diet help a great deal in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and in decreasing its progression. A herbal diet, which is naturally low in iron, copper, saturated and fat, and higher in vitamin E and other antioxidants, is a powerful way to reduce the risk of getting Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Greger discovered that saffron and berries have additional benefits for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. For even more protection against disease, combine a healthy plant-based diet with other lifestyle factors such as adequate sleep, effective stress management, mental stimulation, avoidance of drugs when possible, and regular exercise.
